First off, I have never done a review for this type of music, so this is a BYED first.

Coming out of Alabama, the rapper Yelawolf shows his lyrical talent and versatility. Mixed with heavy bass, insane lyrical skills, and catchy beats, this c.d. is a must for anyone who wants their trunk to rattle. I heard about this artist over on the Steve Meade Designs website (Link) when I was looking for some music with really low bass. After one listen to this c.d., I was very impressed. I play this nearly every time I get in my car. The bass is insane, nearly shaking my mirrors off. His raps are also insane, and also very creative. I think Yelawolf is one of the fastest spitting rappers in todays world. If you want to bump some loud music that is actually good, this is a must.

Not too long ago, I found Plug In Stereo. Instantly I went and downloaded it instantly from iTunes. His music is defiantly something you can relate to. It started out just being all him, but this EP adds touches to his songs, giving them a whole new feel. Some of the songs have drums and other instruments added. This EP gives me high hopes for the next few releases of his. His release Nothing to Something was his first song into this new sound. What I liked about this EP is that he released it for free [or if you want to, donate]. You can get it from the Plug In Stereo Bandcamp website at pluginstereo.bandcamp.com.

It Is A Sad Day...

I started this blog as something to do in my free time to show my love of music and to help share it with other people. I did it for you all. But now the man has cracked down. Apparently, my BYED Mixtape #2 got reported for 'Copywrite Infringement.' So I got a nice e-mail from Blogger explaining what would go down. It was nothing big, but basically, I had to take down the post. No big deal. But it got me thinking. I could understand if it were a full album, but it is a mixtape. For promotional purposes only. What the hell?

But whatever, It's just been a rough day all in all, and getting this was not a great thing for me. I will trek on, I will keep on reviewing music, and posting links to as many free content as I can. I apologize for my inactivity. Senior year has been busy. Anyways, I hate to say this, but thanks to the person who reported it, I will no longer be posting BYED Mixtapes.

I recently got an e-mail from this band, asking me to do a review. I was utterly amazed at the quality of music from this band. Their sound is truly something that you can listen to for hours on end. This EP shows the different sounds, from some of the songs being slower, to some being upbeat. The thing that I liked most about this EP, is that every song made me want to listen to more. There is no bad song on this EP. They capture the sound of older music, while blending in some features of new music. A very catchy and unique vocal style, featuring one singer, who is also their drummer. If you want to know how hard that is, go try it in rock band. It is a crazy hard feat, and I send my heart out to Adam. I strongly suggest you listen to this EP, buy the EP, or go see the band live. Anything to support this band. They will be playing at SXSW this month as mentioned in my previous post.

Monday Spotlight: Secret Secret Dino Club

This week is Secret Secret Dino Club.

Secret Secret Dino Club is a truly unique artist/band. From the release Up To No Good and Super Fun Party Songs! to Doin' My Own Thing, And Doin' It So Well, you can tell the diversity in Jayce's musical talent. The older releases of Secret Secret Dino Club were more Raps over beats, when the newer releases have a popish sound. The newer releases feature the guitar, when the older stuff was just beats and riffs. Don't get me wrong, All Secret Secret Dino Club is good, but in different ways. I strongly suggest his music to anyone.

Secret Secret Dino Club is current on tour and will be on stage at SXSW in Texas. Also, Mike Hindirt (the bassist of The Bravery) has a new record company, named Merrifield Records, and his label will have their own showcase on March 20th from 4pm-10pm at The Tiniest Bar In Texas. This showcase will star bands like The Royal Chains, Thee Lexington Arrows, and other bands from the new label. Do not miss your chance to see any of these bands. Monday Spotlight: Romance On A Rocketship

This week is Romance On A Rocketship.

I have been a big fan of Romance On A Rocketship for the longest time. Ever since I heard Kasey Smith's song Skin & Bones. If you think the name Kasey Smith sounds familiar, you might know him from Agraceful [which he is no longer in]. His music has a simple, yet eloquent tone. All of his music is catchy and has Smith's unique voice. While only having 9 songs so far released on iTunes, Smith has made a name for himself, and has nearly flawless track reviews on iTunes. All of his music is inspired by everyday life, and Smith want's to write music that people can relate to. While having no official CD releases yet, Smith has still reserved his spot in the world of music today.

First off, this is not just The Black Keys. This is a collaboration album with tons of rappers, featuring Ludarcis, Ol' Dirty Bastard (R.I.P.), Mos Def, RZA, and many more talented rappers. Also featuring the booming female vocals of Nicole Wray. This album was made in 11 days. Nearly one day per song. Many people may wonder how they got ODB's vocals. Well, ODB had some tapes which were signed over to his brief Roc4Life venture under Def Jam, with intention for a new album to be released. This is an astonishing mix of music. Any rock/rap collaboration is great in my books. It has all of the perks of rap, but with the sound of black keys in the background. After seeing them live this summer in Denver, and briefly meeting Patrick Carney (their drummer), I think that this C.D. is a great addition to their previous ones. I would have been sadly deprived if my friend had not told me about them.

New Deftones Song From Diamond Eyes Posted

Today is a great day for Deftones fans The band has released their first single from their upcoming c.d. Diamond Eyes. Their new song is entitled Rocket Skates. You can download the song for free at gunsrazorsknives.com. Also from their website, but it is currently down from the massive hits. Below is a video posted on the Deftones Youtube Page with the song, and a very cool animation for their lyrics. After hearing this, I have sky high hopes for their new c.d., which is set to come out on May 18th.

Monday Spotlight: Death Cab For Cutie

Today, I listened to a lot of Death Cab For Cutie. Their music has been a great inspiration to me for the longest time. On my drive home from school I listened to their music, and was instantly not road raging over the traffic. Lead singer, Ben Gibbard, has an amazing voice, and has a great gift for lyrics. Throughout the entire history of Death Cab For Cutie, their music has only improved. From the beginning of Death Cab their music has been more then something special. To this day, they are still amazing, and have amazing musical abilities.

Monday Spotlight: Matt Hires

For #Musicmonday I decided to try something new. It is called Monday Spotlight. I will basically tell you about an artist/band who I have recently found, or just enjoy.

This week is Matt Hires.

I heard one of his songs on Ultimate-Guitar.com. I was interested. After a listen or two of music on his myspace, I went out and got his CD. His music is a mix of folk-sounding, acoustic, and rock. His vocals remind me of Mayday Parade, mixed with Counting Crows, a interesting, but good mix at that. The guitar work is fairly simple, but it fits. As well as the drums and other instruments. A very good blend of music for any situation, and a great artist to listen to in the summer time. For only 23 years old, Matt Hires has a very good mood to his music, and will hopefully continue this trend.

Starting off, The Mars Volta is one of my all-time favorite bands. Their pure energy and musical creativity radiates from their songs. Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez are some of my favorite musicians. This was The Mars Volta's debut album, but listening to it, you wonder how a band could sound so developed on their first studio album. Getting nearly perfect reviews from different critics, it was impressive to me, and many others accordingly. This C.D. follows a story of Cerpin Taxt. You can actually read the story it follows at this link (I will also put up a mirror for it later). In De-Loused in the Comatorium, you will learn how complex Cedric's lyrics are, but also his amazing vocal tone and range. A fun fact is that Cedric is very well known for his dancing on stage and anti-mosh speeches.

Turns out the computer person lied, and there was no coke on the motherboard, just on the fan. Since I use a Macbook Pro it is harder to fix. My dad is going to take it over to the Apple store in Tulsa to see what they can do with it. I hope to be posting within a week or so.

I have been excited about this C.D. since I first heard about it. This release is Christofer Drew's best album to date. When I say that I include all of his EP's. Upon hearing What Is Love? for the first time, I noticed a change in NSN's music. This new C.D. offers a great look into Ingle's life. Also, along with this new C.D. is that NSN is now a full band. No, I don't mean Eatmewhileimhot!. I mean Nevershoutnever. This by it's self is a big change, and has probably helped the music change. Why I like this C.D. is because of how raw and truthful Ingle is. He talks about leaving home, and his smoking habits [of cigarettes and weed] dating back to when he was 14 [and 16 for weed]. I hope that this is the start to a new chapter in Ingle's life, and his music just keeps on improving.

For a band with no words, Maybeshewill sends quite a message. How you ask? Well, Their song titles, sound clips from movies in their songs, and their instruments. I have fallen in love with last.fm stations. I just plug in experimental, and it gives me a great mix of Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Maybeshewill. This C.D. takes you on a trip, the destination is your call. Their music is so compelling and sucks you in. Their sound clips and samples from movies help take their music to the next level. In their song This Time Last Year, a sample is used from the movie I Heart Huckabee's. That sound clip just makes the music insane. It makes a statement about america, that is so true. If you are a fan of any experimental music, then give Maybeshewill a listen.

A very acoustic or slow mix this week. Lets start it off with Balance Problems.

Balance Problems is a band created as a side project of Brack Cantrell, who did some vocals for Sky Eats Airplane. His folk/acoustic mix of music is a great addition to anyones week. The Rocket Summer should need no introduction. Bryce Avary is still rocking it. Lydia is a great band who has a unique style of music. Kidnapper Bell is a recent find of mine. Band of Horses has been a favorite of mine for a long time. Dance Gavin Dance is one of my favorites. I found a pre-production of their C.D. Downtown Battle Mountain which has been amazing. Toadies have such a great music tone and sound. The White Stripes, I have been listening to because of my recent interest in slide guitar.

More to come next week. Right now I am working on getting the Mixtapes up on YouTube so you can listen online, and give feedback.

Last week was a very abstract week in my music.

Mirrored theory I really liked. I heard their (his) music in an Ask Swifty video on facebook. It is a really cool type of music with really catchy songs. Cold War Kids have been one of my favorites. I got more of their music, to hear their progression as a band. Nevershoutnever! made it on there with the new song lovesick. Romance On A Rocketship is just always a recommended artist to listen to, and is good for any mood. Karate High School has a great acoustic version of their song Good News and Bad News. Nine Inch Nails I listened to because of the release of their fan made dvd. Stephen Jerzak just gets me going and is a great mood-setter. Rush is always great to listen to, no matter the weather or mood.

So that is why I listened to each band in a nutshell.

First off, Rush is one of the best three piece bands to ever exist. I am not just saying that to be cool. I honestly mean that. Rush is a band that has influenced a great amount of todays music, such as Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, and Dream Theater. Geddy Lee, Neal Peart, and Alex Lifeson are all musicians who are simply great at what they do. Another great thing about Rush, is that they also sounded good live, unlike a good majority of bands in todays music. Their live sound is captured in Exit...Stage Left very well. From Lee's vocals, and Peart's drum solo in YYZ. For any fans of older music or people who just want to hear a truly amazing band, this C.D. is a must have.

Nine Inch Nails: Another Version of the Truth

Trent Reznor has done it again. Well, actually. The fans have done it this time.

If you recall, back in 2008, Trent Reznor posted the C.D. The Slip for free on the Nine Inch Nails website. He left it with a note saying "This one's on me."

This time, the fans have given back to Reznor. A group of over a dozen NIN fans recorded their last show in Vegas on their 2008 Lights in the Sky Tour. They all sent in their videos to a girl by the alias of Torgo on Echoing The Sound. Torgo was the person who originally posted the idea of making the live dvd. In detail, she planned out how to shoot each and every song on the show. Having volunteers sneak in cameras, and telling them where to stand and so on.

The band also started finding out about this project, as the following message was posted.

"The venue for Friday night's performance in Victoria will have a very relaxed camera / camcorder policy... hmmn..."

They knew they had something that was going to happen. And they made it happen.

That leads us to now. After almost a year of piecing it together, Another Version of the Truth is finally done. The downloads are released, and it looks amazing. All of the download links are on thisoneisonus.org. The downloads are mostly in torrents, but they have nearly every video type possible. Please go and download it, and give them your support. This kind of thing is amazing.

For a group of fans to spend over a year editing and piecing the video together, is amazing. As Reznor said, "Nine Inch Nails fans kick ass." I don't think he could have said it any better.

Top Ten Albums of 2009

Being that 2009 is finally over, I will post my list of the top ten albums of 2009.

First, I would like to say that these are in no specific order. It would be impossible to do so, because I like them all for different reasons

Second, I just put in a brief description of why I like the C.D.. No official reviews.

So, lets start off 2010 with the best of 2009 list.

This list will be the Album name, then the band

10. Grand by Matt and Kim

This C.D. was one of my favorites this year.

You don't really hear music of this intensity from two people.

Plus, a very unique and catchy sound.

9. Sagarmatha by The Appleseed Cast

I love the feel and sound of this C.D..

It is so chilled and laid back.

It sounds like Ambient Rock.

8. Swoon by Silversun Pickups

As a follow up to Carnavas, this C.D. was great.

The energy on this C.D. is through the roof.

7. Sounds of the Universe by Depeche Mode

Depeche Mode still has it, even to this day.

This C.D. was if not, one of their best ones to date.

6. Horehound by The Dead Weather

Jack White, Alison Mosshart, Dean Fertita, and Jack Lawrence.

Any of those names by themselves is amazing, but all together?

Hands down one of the best C.D.'s of 2009.

5. Light by Matisyahu

After three years since their last release, this was purely a gift.

The C.D. is great, and is even better Live.

4. mewithoutYou - It's All Crazy! It's All False! It's All A Dream! It's Alright

mewithoutYou is great band period.

This was a phenomenal follow-up of their 2006 release, Brother, Sister.

3. Say Anything by Say Anything

A great addition to their discography.

Say Anything is nearly done perfecting their art.

Lets hope they don't lose that skill.

2. This Is War by 30 Seconds To Mars

One of my most anticipated albums of 2009.

Once I heard it, I was not let down.

This Is War is, if not, their best C.D. so far.

1. My Name Up In Lights by The Secret Handshake

Another C.D. with simply amazing energy.

This one wants to make you dance.

In Memoriam

I was surfing youtube and I saw that AP magazine had posted a video titled AP In Memoriam 2009, which had some tributes to musicians we have lost.

Do not forget those who we have lost. We must keep them alive in our hearts.

La Dispute Posts Downloads

The band La Dispute has posted up downloads of their EP's on their blog.

The downloads are free, unless you would like to donate. The donations, however, do not go to the band. They go to the Well House, which is a shelter for people in Grand Rapids (their hometown). Check out the Well House website at http://www.wellhousegr.org.

'To those of you who are able to donate, I also want to stress that every dollar and cent donated to Well House will be used by the board and residents of Well House (there are actually 3 houses with 12 residents and 4 live-in staff members currently) to aid the funding of both the houses themselves (installing further solar panels, purchasing seeds and tools for produce farming, etc) as well as several fantastic and forward-thinking programs geared towards transitioning people with housing problems into self-sustaining, self-providing individuals. Rather than relying on government handouts and misappropriated programs that fail to address the housing crisis on its most basic levels, Well House provides a positive, communal environment for struggling people and families that addresses both financial and emotional need, all the while assisting in the general betterment of the community. I don’t mean to drag on or preach or anything, and I’m certainly not trying to guilt you into giving money, but, man, the place is so cool. I can’t stop talking once I start. This type of thing is truly a great thing to do. You do not have to donate, like they said. If you do, it goes for a great cause.

This is probably the shortest thing I will every review. Anyways.

Alas, Hellogoodbye has released new tracks. It has been a while since they had released. This is due to their touring, and two of their members leaving. Jesse Kurvink, their ex-keyboardist, decided to go back to college, and along with Jesse, Chris Profeta left also. This was their lineup that they finished their tour with. This two song EP is not like their first EP, which consisted of tracks like Bonnie Taylor Shakedown, and Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn. This EP is much like their last release, Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!. It is a combo of Z!A!V!D! and Forrest Kline's Ukulele EP. Very relaxed music, with catchy guitar work and vocals. This EP really shows how much they have progressed as a band. First off, I'd like to apologize for the very bad #Musicmonday I did last week. I was swamped with finals for school and such. This week I have a much better selection.

With the release of NeverShoutNever!'s Hot Topic EP, I have been listening to a lot of him. For Sour, I posed a blog over on LLIOF about one of their music videos, and their music is just very creative. Daft Punk has just been a great unwinder. I have been listening to a lot of Of Machines because of their crazy vocalist. Gym Class Heroes has been helping me think about how their band has progressed. Team Sleep is also great unwinding music. Hellogoodbye released two new songs on their website, and they are just downright amazing. Lastly, Mastisyahu. His music is just great stuff regardless of what mood you are in.

Hailing from the roots of the Deftones, singer and guitarist Chino Moreno is one of the main people in Team Sleep. Team Sleep mixes experimental, ambient, shoegaze, and trip hop all into one amazing combo. Between the pulsing drums, ghostly vocals and dreamy guitar riffs, Team Sleep could be the soundtrack to your dreams. While they only have one studio c.d. out, they have a few live and acoustic versions and also remixes. Team Sleep was also featured in the movie Matrix: Reloaded, with their song "The Passportal." Moreno stated in 07 that they would not be releasing a new c.d. until 2010. While that year is approaching fast, I can't wait until they release their second c.d.

Note: The reason that the words Hot Topic are in brackets is because that this EP is just titled EP, but is only sold in physical copy at Hot Topic stores. Just to get that out of the way. Also, this is how I type the name. He changed it like this back in 2008, and is how I prefer it.

This EP features b-sides from The Summer EP, live versions of songs, and songs from his upcomming debut c.d. titled What Is Love? which is set to come out January 26, 2010 [as of right now]. Jane Doe has been a demo for a while. This is the version [as far as I know] that will be released on his debut c.d.. This EP was a surprise to me. Not because he came out with a new EP, but the fact that all of his original songs, Big City Dreams, and She's Got Style, were recorded as a full band. If anything, this is his best EP progression wise. Don't get me wrong, all of his EP's have been great, but this one sets a new standard for his music. I can't wait for Ingle's debut c.d. for NSN. This c.d. has to be hands down one of the top 10 of my favorites. Ever. The angst in the vocals by their singer Jordan Dreyer is simply amazing. This is not screaming and wailing into a microphone. His voice displays the pain and emotion he puts into the lyrics he sings. This band is truly amazing, I suggest them to anyone. Their music takes you on an adventure. Not just any adventure, but one specifically one that tells a tale, and a good one at that. I honestly do not know how to describe their music more then a story that never ends. Their guitar work is very well composed as well as bass and drums. They do not keep the same sound in every song, but they do hint at their flexibility when it comes to songs. Just listen to their music and admire their composition, which is the best I've heard in years. First off, Yes the band is foreign which makes this a BYED first! I found out about them from WK.com, a great website. Queen Sea Big Shark is a band based out of Beijing, China. Their music genre is Surf, New Wave, and Dance-Punk. A very unique combination at that, but they make it sound good. While coming from China, their lyrics are in english. They were formed in 2005, making them pretty recent. Their music reminds me of Dead Kennedys with a hint of Joy Divison. They still have formed this genre to their own, as I have heard nothing like it before. After listening to a few of their songs [if you are like me] you should be hooked. I cannot use many more words to describe them. Check them out for yourself.

What Is Emo?

The title is generic, but it's the best I can use to describe this.

In the world of todays music, genre's are tossed around like no one's business.

But have we forgotten the true meaning of a genre, or has music progressed so far that we cannot classify music.

I agree with both of those statements. We really have forgotten the meaning of a genre. Some people would not classify Led Zeppelin [most generic example] as a metal band. They actually are metal. Not today's metal, but still metal nonetheless. Their genre does not change, even the time does. We just have different standards.

But also many genre's have evolved into other genre's of music. You cant put too many bands in the exact same genre's of bands like The Number Twelve Looks Like you or so on. But honestly, I do not think genre's of music are enough to describe a band's sound. Sure, it does help me find music, but no band is exact to their genre. All bands tweak and tune their own sound to fit how they like it, which is good.

One thing I do not like is people classifying things wrong. Such as my Led Zeppelin reference. I also do not approve of people using the term 'Emo' unless it is 100% truthful. Whether it is in music, or with a person. Now, I leave this post with a video that breaks down what Emo music really is.

First off, this c.d. is not like one I typically review. This is a remixed version of their c.d. Suicide Season. The idea was started when lead vocalist Oli Sykes asked a friend to remix a song. He was so pleased, he had the entire c.d. remixed. These are no amateur remixes either. Some of them are from other musicians with bands. Skillex is actually ex-lead vocalist of From First To Last, Sonny Moore. Ben Weinman is the guitarist for the band The Dillinger Escape Plan and other remixes from members of Slipknot, Lostprophets and The Secret Handshake. This c.d. is really like nothing I've heard a harder band do, and frankly, it's really cool.

Frank Zappa. One of the most influential guitarists [in my opinion]. His guitar work [as well as vocal] is just inspirational. If he has a message, he portrays it through his music. Most people have heard/seen Zappa in one form or another, whether is seeing a picture of him, hearing his music, or anything else. Most of his songs are about abstract subjects, while others can be about comical or even taboo [in the time] topics. He also incorporated many genres into his music. If you listen to his music, you can distinctly tell the wide range of the genres. In the song Apostrophe, he lets loose what has to be one of the best solo's i've ever heard in my life. Though he was before my time, I feel like I know a little about him from just his music.

Spawning from the roots of Owl City adding one more, Adam Young and Austin Tofte have created Swimming With Dolphins. While sounding very near to Owl City, I do not want this review to be a comparison between the two bands. Besides, I like Swimming With Dolphins more. Anyways. This c.d. is a very laid back, seemingly techno inspired type sound. In between the pulsing sounds and great lyrics, its hard to not like Swimming With Dolphins. In this c.d. there is ambient type noise, along with very popish synths. This music has a rhythm to it that makes you want to just dance. I highly recommend this to any of my readers who enjoy Synthpop or Ambient music.

Being a huge mewithoutYou and Weezer fan, this combination is unheard of. I can't wait to see if they release a c.d., because if they do I will get it. Hands Down.

Music beaming from the heart and soul of musician Sean Ryan, comes his project Apollo's Child. Does the name Sean Ryan sound familiar? You might know him from his covers of songs on youtube (Though he more recently made his videos private). His soft and meaningful voice just tear through the words to make the song ever so much more touching. In his EP Masquerade of Aspersions, you hear the sincerity of his voice, and also his musical creativity being that he is the only one in the band [playing piano, singing, and guitar]. This c.d. was just great for being a more unknown artist. I mean, he is not a one hit wonder, his music actually stands for something. Enough rambling about his musical talent and how great his musicianship is.

This band sounds like The Twilight Zone on a bad acid trip. Ghostly vocals, that slightly resembling the vocals of Depeche Mode. They sound like a newer version of The Cure almost. But enough comparisons. The Horrors are very psychedelic, as their main genre is psychedelic rock. I cannot really describe their sounds in words more then I already have. Well, I can make the addition that some of their keyboards/synthesizers sounds like a horror show. Their lyrics are simplistic yet deep. I have no clue how that is possible. I am in no way trying to be negative, but their sound is so unique (gotta love U.K. rock). I am at a loss of words to describe this c.d.. Just give it a listen, or their music in general.

This EP being the first songs I have heard by Stephen Jerzak, I am impressed to the max. This EP consists of mostly upbeat songs with catchy lyrics. After listening to these four songs on the EP, I know for sure that I will be listening and staying updated with Jerzak. Something that I found was awesome, is that he is my age [17] and can make music like this. Yet another good artist to fit the feel of the Holiday break. I'll keep posting reviews as I write them.

From first hearing about Josh Radin from his connections to Zach Braff [who directed his music video for Closer] and his song on Scrubs [the song Winter appeared on an episode], I was interested. After a listen or two, I was hooked. The acoustic guitar, stringed instruments, and so on, accompanied by his voice is just a stunning combination. His voice is just so soft, and his lyrics are so sincere, which rarely happens in most music in todays times. The surprising this is that this was his Debut c.d., but somehow he hit spot on with his sound. This music is great for a break for the Holidays. So, if you are out of music to listen to, then check out his music. I'm not going to go into much detail about the album itself, because his songs go from acoustic, to folk rock, to orchestral sounding. So not much I can say except that he makes it work, and his music is great.

In my opinion, I think rock (generic term) bands that cover rap (generic term) songs are just plain cool.

I have sold myself on the idea of making a Holiday mixtape. So I have started working on that, and it will be released around december first or so. I am not sure if there will be another mixtape before the holiday one, so just wait and see.

Since I have not had the time like I have in the past, the reviews and such have slacked. Everything except mixtapes. I've been good about those. Thinking about it, thats not how it should be. So I'm going to change that since I have more free time, and the Thanksgiving Holiday is near.

Spawning of the roots from Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana, and the great Led Zeppelin, here is the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures.

Them Crooked Vultures was a supergroup started with Dave Grohl [on drums], Josh Homme [on vocals and guitar], and John Paul Jones [on bass and keyboards, and also featuring Alain Johannes [their touring rhythm guitarist]. This band was actually recommended to me by one of my good friends, and I was instantly impressed. I heard this album because on November 9th, 2009, they posted their entire album on their YouTube page. Upon hearing their music, I began to feel vibes from all of the musicians, but also they came together and formed this musical amoeba, to form a supergroup. I do not give that title to just any band, it has to be a truly amazing band, and Them Crooked Vultures hits home for that. You can hear all hints of their [past and present] bands sounds in Them Crooked Vultures, but they still have a sound unique to themselves. Anyways, go check them out, I really recommend them. Go buy their c.d. when it is released on November 17th, 2009 in the US or go listen to it on their youtube page (Link posted above, and below in Links).

Band of Horses is another band I heard from Xbox Live. I was instantly compelled to their music. Their down-tempo approach to music is just compelling and makes you want to just go for a long drive to think stuff out. Their music is just so chill and meaningful. They have this modern approach to modern rock. Their lyrics tell tales of, but are not limited to, Loss, Love, and Regret. Any time you need a band to just sit back and relax to, check out Band Of Horses.

10. Maynard James Keenan

Being Tool's frontman, Maynard Keenan has certainly made a name for his unique, yet compelling vocal style.

Not only known for Tool, Keenan has been known for his vocal work with Pusicfer and A Perfect Circle.

His voice alone is just powerful and commanding, but also being enough to give you shivers

9. Michael "Jag" Jagmin

Being one of the newest members of A Skylit Drive, Michael "Jag" Jagmin has added an amazing touch to the band.

Jag can somehow hit those very high notes for a guy, let alone any gender.

Yes, Forrest Kline is that one singer guy from Hellogoodbye.

You might not think much of his voice, but I do. Listening to his Ukulele Recordings, you learn the true talent in his voice.

This list would not be complete without Dallas Green. The backup vocalist for the canadian band Alexisonfire, and the band behind City and Colour.

His voice is good, but is also amazing in live recordings I have seen of him playing with Alexisonfire. No one compares.

6. Cedric Bixler-Zavala

Who is this guy? This guy, is the singer of The Mars Volta and At The Drive-In. Two great bands.

Cedric's voice is very unique, and some of the pitches he hits, is nearly insane.

Circa Survive, enough said. Anthony Green just has a unique tone to his voice that is unmatchable.

He also has some solo stuff that shows his potential in acoustic music.

As the lead singer of his band Pierce The Veil, Vic shows his talent with his band, but also in a acoustic track he recorded with Jonny Craig.

Vic Fuentes has a fairly unique voice, as well as most vocalists on this list, but yet it has an impact on you that is amazing.

3. Claudio Sanchez

Claudio Sanchez, of Coheed and Cambria, I have been a big fan of for the longest time. I have followed the band from their In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3 c.d..

His voice has this unique tone and feel that not many other musicians have. Plus, he plays guitar and vocals for his band, which is a tough feat.

Many people who know me will know that I am a HUGE Jonny Craig fan.

At first listen, you think "What in the hell kind of music is this?" After a listen to a few songs you realize, hey this is like a mathcore version of Mindless Self Indulgence. But that is true, and also false. Not all songs on the c.d. sound like that. It is a very unique sound I have heard from only a few bands. FSRZ has a pretty sweet variety of music, just on this one c.d. From listen you feel like you have been listening to different bands all together. I apologize because this review is all over the place. I guess it goes along with their music, but in a good way. I by no means am trying to put down any bands I review on this website. Here, you check them out at their myspace and let me know how you feel about their music. Also, I strongly suggest you check out the song Don't Forget, which is track number 11. It is an amazing seventeen minute long song, it is well worth the time. (Note: Well, it is listed as 17 minutes but has a good five or so minutes of silent time.) I would actually like to see a video produced for this song, the ideas are infinite.

Jack's Mannequin is just an amazing band. This c.d. is a great follow up for their 2005 c.d., Everything In Transit. Andrew McMahon, vocalist of Something Corporate, created Jack's Mannequin as a side project. From 2004 to now, their fan base has skyrocketed. Both of their c.d.'s were loved by critics, as well as myself.

I had the great honor to see them preform live at The Mile High Music Festival back in July, and it was amazing. I was nearly front row. While in between songs, their vocalist [Andrew McMahon] cracked jokes at the drunks in the audience, and complimented a beer-servers salesman skills as he went over to the drunken side of the crowd after he pointed it out. They ended the show, by jumping on the piano on the final note. It was an unforgettable experience, to say the least.

I would like to also add that there is a documentary on Andrew McMahon about his struggle with ALL (Acute Lymphatic Leukemia). It will be released on November 3rd, 2009. It is titled Dear Jack. Watch the trailer at Dear Jack.

I got this c.d. the day it came out. However I did not listen to it until about two weeks later. I waited until I was in an airplane flying to the city of San Francisco. Looking out the window to see clouds fly by made this c.d. so much better for the first time. I never thought [Owl City's founder and only member] Adam Young could possibly make another c.d. as good as his first one Maybe I'm Dreaming. Alas, I was wronged. The song most people would be familiar with is the song "Fireflies." This song is by far one of the best on the c.d.. Also, for those who like the band Relient K, they will be happy to hear that Matt Thiessen has joined up with Owl City to lend his vocals to a few of the songs on this c.d. I could go on and on about how great I think this c.d. is, but I will leave that up to you to decide.

Dropkick Murphys... Where to begin. I will first start off by saying they have made a large apperance in modern media with their song "The State of Massachusetts" being the theme song for the show Nitro Circus on MTV. Also Dropkick Murphys made an appearance in Guitar Hero 3 with their songs Famous For Nothing, (F)lannigans Ball, and Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya. I have played all of those Guitar Hero 3 songs on many times, being that they are just so fun. Also they were featured in the game Tony Hawk's American Wasteland soundtrack performing the song Who Is Who.

Dropkick Murphys has this way of creating music with just a strong folk tone and combining it with Punk music. It was a very creative combination of genres, but yet they make it seem so easy. I was very impressed when I heard their music for the first time. If I ever went to an irish pub, I would hope to hear this music playing over the speakers as I chug my beers. I hope to hear much more out of Dropkick Murphys in the near future.

Yet another local band I love. I have had the chance to see this band twice, and have loved every minute of it. Their stage energy is great, and their music is even better.

This was their very first c.d. and I bought it the first time I saw them live, since then they have moved on and their music has gotten even better then before. I am by no means saying their music was bad at the beginning, but they have progressed very far as a band.

All of the songs on this (and all of their songs) have very realistic lyrics that anyone who has lived life should know and be able to connect to.

I strongly suggest you check out this band and follow them for their newer stuff. They currently have a new EP titled Via Maris which will hopefully be released by the end of 2009. I am looking forward to this ep.

On a final note: Please support your local music scene. These people [usually] do it for their love of music and the money to a good cause.

I have been a Paramore fan ever since their song Emergency. They hit a giant surge of popularity, and are still on the rise. What makes them from most bands that gain popularity that fast, is that they didn't sell out. Overall I am pretty impressed with this album. It is still catchy, and shows off Hayley Williams' amazing voice. For all of you Twilight fans, you will already know the song Decode, due to the fact that it was on the Twilight OST. For the rest of you who have ever listened to Paramore, you should really like this c.d.. While some of the songs might not be as catchy as Crushcrushcrush! or Misery Business, they are still catchy in the fact that you can sing this while driving in a car, or in the middle of a classroom, while busting into dance.

The first time I heard this band, they simply blew my mind. I had never heard anything just like Fear Before (The March of Flames).

Note: The reason I have The March of Flames in parenthesis is because they changed their name from Fear Before The March of Flames, to Fear Before.

One track that really stood out on this c.d. was the song Everything's Not Shitty. This song is just down to earth and raw. It also has great lyrics.

That is also another thing that stood out about this band, their lyrics. These are not just typical lyrics, but more like stories or something of the sort. For anyone who liked my Pianos Become The Teeth review, this c.d. is a must.

I sadly was ill-informed of the release of this EP which saddens me. Death Cab For Cutie is at it again working their music of epic proportions. Ever since their relase of Narrow Stairs, I was not sure that they could top that. But alas, they have yet again shocked me by making an EP that is better then ever. I later realized, these were recorded for the cd Narrow Stairs, but they did not match the feel of the c.d. They have lost none of their musical abilities, and Ben Gibbard specifically is sounding better then ever. Right here is a good list of songs when you are just going for a drive on a back road, or even hanging out with your friends just having a chill time. As all of the cd's I review, I strongly suggest this EP for any fan of Death Cab For Cutie.

This band is one of (if not) my favorite local bands. I first them live without knowing who they were. They played a show with my friends band. As soon as they went into the first song, I was in awe of Eddie Love's vocals. He sang amazing, even after just getting over a cold. I bought their c.d. at their show, but it is nowhere near as good as their live performance. Don't get me wrong, their c.d. is still good, but I am much more of a fan of seeing a band live, then recorded.

Muse...A band most people associate with the song Knights of Cydonia on Guitar Hero. Well Muse is much more then that. They are a band that give the term music a different meaning. Their style of music is very unique, with very few bands being close to the same genre. Anyways, to this c.d.. It sounds like a futuristic march of armies crossing many galaxies. (Bizarre description, I know.) The album artwork on this cd is also very intriguing. A twisted hexagonal color wheel, this really struck my interest. With some of their songs sounding similar [ in my opinion] to Queen, Hollywood Undead, and many other, it is simply amazing of how they can fuse the music styles together, and still be good. For any true fan of music, this c.d. should be in your collection. Muse is one band that is a must.

Side Note: I also love how Muse can make people sound dumb, without even saying words. What I mean by this is, I saw a video (which will be posted below) of the band Muse, performing on an Italian tv show. Their vocalist, Matt Bellamy, and their drummer, Dominic Howard, actually traded places, and played an entire song. The tv show host (not knowing the band at all) actually interviewed the drummer, thinking he was the actual singer.

When I first started listening to this c.d., I was very confused. Halfway through the first song, I heard the Brand New I recognized. Overall, I was decently pleased with the c.d.. It was not as upbeat as Sic Transit Gloria type, but not as slow as Limousine. It is a happy medium in between the two. One song that I was no expecting was Be Gone. With very down south style guitar riffing, and very choppy vocals, though short, this song was still catchy, and very unique to the rest of the c.d.. After one full listen through the c.d. it will leave you thinking, what will Brand New come out with next.

First off, I am ecstatic that Jonny Craig made a solo c.d.. As you will learn, I am a huge Jonny Craig fan. I first learned about him from his ex band Dance Gavin Dance's c.d. Downtown Battle Mountain. That lead me to his current band Emarosa.
Also, as you will hear from any Jonny Craig fan, the c.d. was too short. I agree with this, but I was not let down by it at all. One thing I absolutely loved about this c.d. was the continuation of the I Still Feel Here series that he started on the Emarosa c.d. Relativity. The first song I heard of this c.d. was 7 AM, 2 Bottles And The Wrong Road. I listened to that song on repeat for days. His futuristic sounding synths, along with his smooth voice just make that song [and all others] stunning. This c.d. was just an amazing addition to any collection for a fan of Jonny, Dance Gavin Dance, or Emarosa.

The Juliana Theory..sadly I found out about this band after they broke up. This c.d. is one of my favorite live c.d.'s of all time, due to its raw energy, and uplifting feel. Plus, they are actually good [recorded] live.

All of the songs on this c.d. are just amazingly composed and written. You feel like you are almost there, from their talking back and forth on stage during intermissions. I honestly am at a loss for words on how to describe this c.d. For any lover of music that just makes you happy and want to be in a good mood, I strongly suggest this c.d..

I apologize if these first reviews are sloppy. I'm just getting back in the hang of writing reviews.

After first hearing this c.d., I was stunned. I had never heard music of this genre lift me off of my feet, and just make me feel great.
Pianos Become The Teeth is a five piece band from Maryland, who fuses together roots of post-hardcore with some instrumental and ambient sounds.
Their lyrics, along with their instruments are so raw, they just cut deep and give you a connection with their music. In the song Cripples Can't Shiver, there is a part in the middle of the song [from 2:45ish to 3:46] where a woman is speaking about her husband being diagnosed with an illness. This was a very unique style of breakdown, not like anything I had heard before.
The last song on the c.d. [Young Fire] has a very down pace type feel to it. It is very similar to the band Mogwai. (See the song Ithica Ø 27)

I decided I would start out with a post of Maxïmo Park due to the fact that they came on my iTunes.

From first hearing about this band back in 2007, I was impressed from the start. I first heard about this band on Xbox Live, because you could download their video for Our Velocity for free.

Starting out with more Electronic sounding synths, I found it very catchy. The video itself was semi confusing, but still did not turn me away from the band.

After a few listens of the c.d., I was very attached. Vocalist Paul Smith had a way with words that just drew you in, relating to his listeners in a way that just makes you like their music even more.

Now to the c.d. itself.

Maxïmo Park's music overall could not be related to many other bands. With a Vocalist/Guitarist, Bassist, Drummer and Keyboardist, their sound is very impressive. The lyrics are clear in their meaning, but also can be very though provoking, which makes the c.d. all the better.
